I’m not really a fan of Benefit being honest – this hits counters in June in Ireland and the UK but I have to say I’m somewhat intrigued…
Because of my eye infection, I decided to deep clean all the brushes I remember using in the last few days so here’s a pic of some of my brush collection drying. Brands are; MAC, Sam Chapman, Jemma Kidd, The body shop foundation brush (lives up to the hype), Sephora, Sigma, Bare Essecentuals & No 7. Will update soon with a proper pic of my full brush collection :)
The other night I decided to do a classic flick with a nude lip. I picked up my Bobbi Brown graphite ink gel liner, which I haven’t used in about a year or probably a bit less but a good nine months but to be honest I thought it would be fine. After tight lining, both of my eyes started stinging which at the time I thought nothing of & now 2 days later I have one very sore, very blood shot eye.
My advice; if in doubt ditch it.
Update: A fellow blogger just shared this;
A general guideline with you and your readers about Make Up and it’s shelf life.
Also, there is a website (www.http://checkcosmetic.net/) that allows your to check any product by typing in a code found on the product.
Here’s a list of products I’m nearing the end of/finished completely or am loving in my bathroom currently;
I’m not sure what’s going on anymore – L’Oreal who own Lancome seem to running foul of the advertising authority a lot these days. Unilever, owners of DOVE like to keep it quiet that the “Real Women” beauty campaign was actually photo-shopped!
I quite like the MUFE advert, her skin looks amazing & you can see real actual skin which makes a change. I’m not completely against image enhancement in post production but the true texture & look of skin seems to have been lost a long time ago.
This is the third best selling mascara in Boots, I’m shocked genuinely. I got this free with Elle and said I’d give it a go. A while ago I really went though a big S&G phase and had zillions of their products, since they are a created for Boots by the ex owner of Bliss, a lot of the formulations seem similar and I really loved the stuff for a while. Then I started to get sick of the smell and tired of the gaudy packaging. When the Makeup range came out I actually had quite high hopes for it and I was so underwhelmed with this product. No picture for this one, it wasn’t even worth taking.
Here’s a quick post on what I’ve been watching recently.
Revenge and Ringer from the CW are still great, I’m really enjoying them. Smash from NBC is my absolute fave new show, I’ve watched the pilot 3 times – that’s how much I love it. It’s the best show I’ve seen out in a while and I love that it’s a fresh concept that hasn’t been done before, having Stephen Spielberg attached can’t hurt too right. I’ve pretty much stopped watching Pretty Little Liars and the Lying Game – both from the CW, they’ve become more and more unrealistic, but I’m still watching the Secret Circle which is still good. Gossip Girl has oddly been great again recently & Hart of Dixi is okay so I’m still watching it for now but it’s not amazing.
I gave Khloe and Lamar a try today, the first episode of the new series and it was a total cringe fest – avoid! The real housewives of BH are have been great and sadly I think this week was the final episode :( Dance Moms from Lifetime – still liking it, it’s easy to watch and entertaining. Those are the only two reality shows I’ve been watching recently.
I liked Grey’s Anatomy a lot the last few months, and the Good Wife – both are some of my weekly faves. Pan Am is still limping along, I usually have it on in the background while I tidy my room or something, it’s not exactly riveting, same with House of Lies – some entertaining characters but the series is so unrealistic. Californication has been good the last two weeks, it seems fresh this season.
….final season of Desperate Housewives. It’s nice that everyone seems to be coming back for the final adieu but it’s past it’s prime – another show I “watch” while doing a zillion other things & I always fast forward though Susan’s parts since she’s so needy and irritating.
New Show: The River – can’t remember what network it’s from. I watched the first 3 episodes and all I can say is unless you like the camera work in the Blair Witch Project or that hideous clover field movie don’t bother watching it. It has one of the most ridiculous plots I’ve ever come across but then again what else would you expect from JJ Abrams, ideas but no execution.
I’m kind of ashamed to say my room has five or six half read books lying around at the moment so it’s my goal to finish one this week I’m going with “The Cult of the Luxury Brand” which I’ve been half way through for a while. It’s about the explosion of lux goods in Asia post communism.
Too Faced Primed & Poreless: This is a tinted gel like product, that I found very drying & didn’t like the color. I also didn’t think it made me look poreless. This is definitely for people with combination /oily skin
Smashbox Photo Finish: I use this every time I go out, it gives the skin a flawless look in pictures under foundation I find, this is very silicon based & I wouldn’t use this on a regular basis as I think it would clog my pores too much. Not a poreless finish either but a good, smooth base for makeup. You need to give it a couple of minutes to sink in. It’s about €40
Smashbox targeted line & pore primer: about €36 – this isn’t as good as I’d like it to be, it’s thicker than the regular version but to a certain extent it fills in scars & large pores. Mixed /layered with the photo finish it’s quite good. You need to leave this set
Urban DecayPrimer Potion: about €30 – thick white cream, this wasn’t great in my opinion & was very drying. Difficult to work with & doesn’t leave a flawless feel base
Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer: This doesn’t feel silicon based, it’s more a gold toned luminous finish primer, lovely base for makeup & gives tired, washed out skin a lovely lift – about €35. This is my all time fave every day primer – similar to MAC strobe cream
Murad Skin Perfecting Primer Dewy Finish: This is lovey gold liquid that creates a lovely moisturizing base that’s great to work on, doesn’t need time to set really & brightens up the skin very well – about €40
Chanel Base Lumiere: Love this, this creates a lovely flawless base as well but has more silicon in it so I wouldn’t like to use this daily. This fills in pores quite well too & gives a soft finish & it’s not drying – about €40
NARS Pore Perfecting Primer: I actually really liked this, a light liquid that’s not too drying or silicon based that smooths the skin and covers most medium sized pores. I found it didn’t dry my skin & lasts very well – I think this would work on most skin types – about €40
L’Oreal Studio Secrets Primer: About €20 – I hated this. It’s like smoothing a silicon souffle on your face that never dries, it doesn’t fill in pores & because it takes so long to set it’s very hard to work with
Benefit That Gal Primer: This is a pink toned pearlesent primer that’s about €36. It’s a tiny bottle about 12ml which is a complete joke. This is meant to brighten and it’s okay. It’s moisturizing, but doesn’t really prime or leave a luminous the finish to the skin
Right, so like anyone else in the beauty blogosphere I heard Sam’s brushes were coming to Boots on the 14th of February. I turned up on the 16th ready to buy all around me – nearly everything was sold out & I mean like everything. They had very little stock to begin with & apparently people were coming in all week asking when were they going to be on the floor.
The two I picked up are the stippling brush & the blush brush. I wasn’t expecting amazing quality to be honest but I’m so impressed. The stippling one is lovely – I’ve been using it every day for foundation, it’s firmer and smaller than the MAC and blends everything really well. The blush brush is AMAZING, it’s super soft & the domed head means as a powder brush it’s perfect because it can get in under the eyes. I don’t love it for blush but it’s my new powder brush. Both were about €16 each.
I can’t wait to buy the rest.
